The “Playfulness of Women” was created by bronze artist Amadou B. from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (formerly known as Upper Volta).  These beautifully crafted bronze ladies were made using the loss wax method.  The loss wax casting method is an ancient practice of creating metal molds, this insures that the art work is uniquely yours.  In ancient Burkina Faso this was the most common casting technique used and honey wax was used instead of paraffin based waxes.  The molds were made of river mud mixed with horse dung to add strength when the molted metals are poured into the mold.

Amadou B. comes from generations of bronze artisans and today, he still practices this ancient way of making bronze art.  He supports his family through this art form by making unique pieces for the tourism industry.  Since the collapse of tourism in Burkina Faso due to COVID19 and political instability, its been a struggle finding an outlet for his artwork.
